Who We Are

Turtle Gardens has operated for over 20 years as a small, private shelter that rescues homeless dogs in Northern BC. The dogs come from all circumstances - former family dogs, pups from unplanned litters and sadly, dogs from more neglectful situations. Turtle Gardens takes them all in and rehomes almost all of them. Those few listed as unadoptable due to behaviour or health are kept in safety for the remainder of their lives. Turtle Gardens is a no-kill shelter.

Spay/Neuter Program

It has become obvious that even with the hundreds of animals adopted out each year through Turtle Gardens the flow of homeless animals will not stop unless a viable spay/neuter option is given to the low income families of Northern BC. Turtle Gardens is in the process of developing a low cost Spay/Neuter program. If this project is of interest to you please consider donating to the "SNP" or Spay/Neuter Program. If you know of any other fundraising opportunities for this program please contact us via email with your ideas. Our Vision is 2020 - we would like all pets in Northern BC spayed or neutered by 2020. Help us see 2020!

FUNDRAISING

Donate Now Through CanadaHelps.org!\

Every dollar goes to the animals - no admin fees, no publicity fees, no salaries. Even $10 helps, $20 helps twice as much, $50 pays for a spay/neuter. CanadaHelps.org is a Canadian online charity operated through Canadian Banks such as RBC and TD. It is safe, secure and easy. Thank you from the animals.

There are 2 funds which you can select depending on your preference:

The Spay & Neuter program described below is (S/NP). Funds donated under this heading will go directly to the program to improve the lives of pets & help reduce the overpopulation issue.

The Animal Fund is our general fund where the money goes to where it is most needed at the time. All of the money helps the animals.

Thank you! *New Page* Recognizing volunteers and donations!

FEATURED PETS: These RottieXSharpei cross pups are approaching 6 months old so will soon be neutered/spayed which along with good food should clear up the remaining demodectic mange they have. They are looking for good indoor homes and a high quality food to eat (ideally grain free). They were born here in the safety of Turtle Gardens and are going to make 3 families very lucky indeed. These pups have tons of personality and their unique looks make them each special dogs.

Volunteering and Donations

Volunteers are always welcome. We need people to help maintain this website, to do publicity for the dogs still looking for homes, and to help with paperwork. If you only have an hour to help - you can! Select a dog from the adoptables section and email all your connections/family/friends with its bio. The more people that see a dog, the more likely he or she will find its forever home. It can be that easy to help.

Donations are always useful - food, collars, leashes, towels, blankets - please email us if you have items to donate and we can direct you to a volunteer drop site in your area.

Topley? Where is Topley? Unless you are a geography whiz, you probably have never heard of Topley, BC. It's a very small town in the middle of Hwy 16. The closest 'big town' is Smithers, about 3 hours west of Prince George. Dogs are either flown or driven to their new homes.

Over 200 dogs have been gone to homes where they had not met the dog before adoption. This can help a family make the decision with their heads first, then their hearts. Matching a dog to a family is a process that involves application, telephone interview, and homecheck.
